Student Life, Well-Being, and Community

A lot of thought goes into choosing the right medical school. School location is a key factor in the decision making process. When choosing among schools in the Caribbean, take time to review some considerations, such as the climate, access to basic needs and how you may spend your free time. One visit to Barbados and you will understand why over half-a-million tourists travel to the Island each year.  Its turquoise waters and sandy beaches draw repeat visitors from around the globe.  Barbados is also located below the hurricane belt which has protected it from many of the storms that have impacted other islands.

Queen’s University College of Medicine at the Codrington College Campus offers its medical students the experience of a spirited and inviting Campus Community with:

  • A majestic view of the Caribbean Sea

  • Tranquil garden style surroundings in a unique nature-inspired environment

  • New Campus Gym with personal Lockers

  • Student Lounge and Patio

  • Campus Wi-Fi

  • The Codrington College Cafeteria is open for Lunch and Dinner. A pre-purchased Food Plan is available

  • Students may receive postal mail sent to the Queen's University College of Medicine/Codrington College address

  • Transportation is provided to campus from TradeWinds, the Campus' current long-term student housing

Healthcare in Barbados

We are in proximity (minutes away) to Rose Gate Medical Centre and David Thompson Health and Social Services Complex. Full medical services are available at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) (40 minutes away). The 600 bed Queen Elizabeth Hospital is operated by the government and offers emergency services as well as specialists in pediatrics, obstetrics, radiology and psychiatry.  The hospital also performs surgery. We all plan to be healthy but what happens when you are far from home and need reliable medical care? In Barbados, high standard healthcare services are easy to find. There are two main hospitals on the Island, medical centers, well-equipped private and public clinics, medical laboratories, pharmacies, and many doctors from which to choose.
